If you think that influencers and embedded adverts are new phenomena only with the advent of the internet, think again. This early nineteenth-century Japanese print from the exhibition titled ‘Underdogs and Antiheroes’ at the Sackler Gallery shows sumo wrestler influencers. The only thing that is missing here is the permission to store cookies. But with their size and weight, it’s unrealistic to expect the sumo wrestlers to ask for permission.
